Every October, children’s aid societies from across the province raise awareness about the rights of children and youth to safety, permanency and well-being, as well as the important role that adults and the community plays in helping children, youth and families in need of support.
On Dress Purple Day – Thursday, October 24th, 2019, we are inviting you – our community – to wear purple and help share the positive message that help is available. Please join us in celebrating the community that cares for kids. We all have a role in protecting every child and youth’s right to safety, permanency and well-being.
How to get involved
The simplest way to get involved is by wearing purple on October 24th to show your support and joining the social media campaign using the hashtag #IBREAKthesilence. The Society is active on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram – be sure to tag the agency in your Dress Purple Day posts! A free social media tool kit will be made available in August courtesy of the Ontario Association of Children’s Aid Societies (OACAS).
To support Dress Purple Day, Boost Child & Youth Advocacy Centre and Windsor-Essex Children’s Aid Society, have developed free online classroom resources to assist teachers to talk about child abuse and neglect in an age appropriate manner and to help raise awareness among children and youth about how to ask for help from adults. These tools are designed with teachers in mind but can be accessed for free by anyone. Visit the Dress Purple Day section on the OACAS’s website to access printable posters, brochures and other resources.
Purchase a Dress Purple Day T-shirt to wear on October 24th, 2019. The deadline for the first order is September 9th, 2019 and your shirt will be shipped September 25th.
