Today, May 14, is Children and Youth in Care Day in Ontario. Children and Youth in Care Day is an opportunity to recognize the contributions of current and former youth in care to the Province.
“Children and youth in care are bright, insightful, resourceful leaders, who are champions for themselves and for others,” says Bryan Shone, Executive Director, Hamilton Children’s Aid Society. “We want to share an important message with children and youth in care. You are not alone and we believe in you and are inspired by your strength.”
Hamilton CAS wanted to take the opportunity to recognize the success children and youth in care achieve every day. Recognizing the day had to look a little different this year, the staff at Hamilton CAS, along with some amazing partners in the Hamilton community including Mayor Fred Eisenberger and local sports teams, came together to create a short video to show children and youth just how many people in our community truly care. Check out the video here which is also posted on Hamilton CAS social media!
In addition, since everyone is spending a lot of time at home right now, children and youth involved with Hamilton CAS will receive a code that can be used to enjoy a Cineplex movie. It’s a small gesture, but hopefully it will help provide a well-deserved break!
“Youth success is a priority at Hamilton CAS and we want to support youth to reach their full potential,” says Shone. “We will continue to work together – not only on days like today, but throughout the year – to listen and learn from the youth we work with.”
